ASUS, though, is a higher-level brand, so its laptops might not be pricier than many of its competitors. If you are looking for a high-quality, dependable machine, though, an ASUS laptop might be the right choice.

The Asus X58 is the most common Asus laptop currently being offered free with mobile phone deals. It is a budget machine with a fairly low spec, but more than adequate for most peoples requirements. Perfect for browsing the Internet or completing school / University assignments, but not up to video editing / game playing etc.

It would also be worth looking into the possibility of upgrading the memory on these machines to give you a bit more power. All in all, this is a decent macine for a freebie, but it is not suitable for all applications, so consider what you need the machine for before ordering. As mentioned, surfing the web, word processing etc. should be fine, but graphics intensive applications will really struggle.
ASUS K50IJ
The ASUS K50IJ ranks as the most entry level of the company’s three 15.6-inch models. However, it is still a powerful and dependable laptop.
The K50IJ features an LED display that boasts a resolution of 1366-by-768. It also comes equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an Intel integrated GMA 4500M graphics card.
The machine is big on memory, too, coming with up to 4 gigabytes of RAM and a hard drive of up to 320 gigabytes.
If you use your computer for entertainment as well as for work, you’ll be happy to know that the K50IJ comes with a built-in DVD burner, Webcam and Altec Lansing speakers with SRS surround sound support. It’s like having your own miniature home theater.
The computer’s battery, a six-cell version, lasts for up to three hours without a charge. That’s not great, but it’s not terrible, either.

ASUS Eee PC 1008HA
Introduced in the first part of 2009, the ASUS Eee PC 1008HA is one of the lightest netbook computers you’re likely to find. This sleek machine is only one-inch thick and weighs just 2.4 pounds.

The machine features a fairly standard battery that will run for about four to five hours before it needs a charge. Some users may be put off by the screen that is a bit wider than normal because of the larger keyboard; some images may appear a bit wonky.
Overall, though, the 1008HA is a good machine for anyone who works often from remote locations. The 1008HA is also a fairly inexpensive machine, sometimes available free with mobile phone deals.
