HP Laptps (available free with mobile phones)
HP provides computers in more than 170 countries. It’s safe to say, then, that the company ranks as one of the giants of the laptop-computer industry.
HP, its corporate headquarters in the U.S. city of Palo Alto, Calif., was founded in 1939. Today, it ranks as one of the world’s largest IT companies. According to the company’s Web site, it boasted revenue of more than $118 billion in 2008. It ships 48 million PC units every year.
It’s no surprise, then, that HP produces a wide range of laptop computers, some under its own name, others under the Compaq label. The good news is that HP manufactures laptop computers at all price points and power levels. You can find an HP laptop, then, if you want to spend 1,500 GBP or if you’d rather not shell out more than 700 GBP.
If you’re looking for a new laptop computer, HP is a good place to start. You’re sure to find at least one or two models that fit your needs.
Here, then, is a quick look at two of the company’s entry level laptops. And if you don’t like this, don’t worry; there are plenty of other models where these came from.
HP Pavilion dv3-2055ea
Those looking for a good entry level HP laptop should consider the Pavilion dv3-2055ea. This good-looking laptop retails for about 800GBP, so not only is it a powerful computer, it’s also an affordable one.
And what do users get for their money? For one thing, the Pavilion dv3-2055ea comes with a powerful 500GB hard drive, one that possesses enough storage space for any user. IT also boasts 4GB of RAM, again a very respectable amount of memory. But if this isn’t enough, the Pavilion is expandable, with users able to boost the machine up to 8GB of RAM.
Because the Pavilion is a 13.3-inch laptop, it’s large enough to hold a standard-size keyboard, which is exactly what the engineers at HP supplied it with. The keyboard comes with a standard layout. It also features a large trackpad that is easy to use.
The machine is a good one for users who want to us their laptops to view movies or downloaded television shows. The screen even boasts a 16:9 aspect ratio that makes movie-viewing a real pleasure. Finally, the Pavilion comes with three USB ports, so there’s plenty of options for users who want to connect several outside devices to their machine.
The HP Pavilion dv3-2055ea does nothing to hurt HP’s reputation for producing quality machines. This particular laptop ranks as a top-notch entry level machine.
HP Mini 2140
HP’s forays into the netbook end of the computing industry have been typically well-thought-out. The HP Mini 2140 is no exception: It features more than enough power for netbook computing along with a nearly full-size keyboard.
The keyboard itself is a bit of an engineering marvel. HP says that it’s a full 92 percent of the size of a regular keyboard. That’s quite amazing for a netbook. And it makes typing papers or preparing presentations a far more comfortable experience than netbook-typing usually is.
The Mini 2140 is a bit heavier than some netbooks. That’s largely because the machine boasts aluminum construction. Users will have to determine whether they’re prefer a lighter netbook or one that, like the Mini 2140, is sturdy enough to survive the bumps and knocks of the traveling life.
The Mini 2140 also features a first for netbook computers. It comes with its own full ExpressCard/54 slot. Some users prefer to have these to support mobile broadband modems or memory card readers.
The netbook comes with a 160GB hard drive, and is powered by a fast Intel Single Core 1.6GHz Atom processor. The machine, then, runs fast enough, and is powerful enough, to support most computing applications. As with most netbooks, though, the Mini 2140 isn’t quite powerful enough for top-level video gaming.
At under 390 GBP, the Mini 2140 is a good buy for anyone who does a significant amount of business on the road.
